What's New

Hailey, Brody, Casey & Wray, M.D., P.C.

There is a recent trend in the media and in some practitioner's offices that reflects a "no down time" policy for almost all procedures. Many of the procedures we perform in dermatologic surgery, especially injectable fillers, do not have down time. However, for the removal of significant wrinkles, scarring, pigmentation or pre-cancers, down time is necessary. Realize, if you will, that in many instances "no down time" may mean "no results."

The physicians of Hailey, Brody, Casey & Wray, M.D., P.C. are here to safely guide you through the maze of treatments advertised in many publications and on the world wide web. Many of these treatments are paramedical and quasi-cosmeceutical garbage, and are promoted by non-physicians and non-dermatologists that refer to themselves as "skin specialists."

Our goal is to provide you with accurate information and positive results. We're also here to help you through any down time with professional, informative care.

Kybella Injections

Drs Brody, Casey, Wray and Alexander are pleased to offer Kybella injections to treat Moderate to Severe Fat under the chin, commonly called double chin. Kybella is the first and only approved non-surgical treatment for contouring and dissolving fat under the chin.

It is injected about every 4-6 weeks for a total of 3-6 injection appointments, depending upon volume of fat present. Each appointment will take about 30-45 minutes.

Kybella is a non-human form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring substance in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. It causes destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. The results can be permanent.

Submental fullness, sometimes referred to as "double chin", is a common yet undertreated facial aesthetic condition. It can impact a broad range of adults, including both men and women, and can be influenced by several factors such as aging, genetics and weight gain, and is often resistant to diet and exercise alone. If you're bothered by submental fullness, you're not alone. According to a 2014 survey conducted by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS):

  • 68% of people said they’re bothered by under-the-chin fullness, or double chin
  • People are just as bothered by under-the-chin fullness as they are by lines and wrinkles around and under their eyes

For more information see our Kybella page.

Juvederm Voluma®

Juvederm Voluma satisfies a need for volumizing the cheeks to restore support for the lower face in addition to the upper face. The results are independent of using fillers elsewhere on the face and of lifting procedures. Certainly the combination of all these procedures can be recommended for some persons. However, the advance in this product is in the longevity and in the innovative injection techniques, which require anatomical knowledge unique to dermatologic surgeons as well as other cosmetic physicians and surgeons. Taking a three-dimensional approach to the face now is a significant advance over what we could do prior to 2013. Deflation of the cheeks due to aging can now be corrected and improve results in skin rejuvenation.

Several factors are responsible for deflational aging. The remodeling and thinning of the skull causes receding of the cheekbones, and the midcheek fat pad thins and sinks due to gravity. Fillers stimulate collagen as well, and this can be an additional benefit.

Our goal is to avoid the chipmunk-cheeks from too much filler, which is a common error. More is not always better.

Latisse® is the new prescription topical drug for eyelash growth. It creates lashes with greater length in everyone who uses it, as well as darkening and increased thickness of lashes in 80% of users. Patients who have lost their eyelashes due to diseases such as alopecia areata or scarring disease may not experience success. However, those women and men who have thinning eyelashes due to aging or thyroid disease may be excellent candidates.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is an effective treatment for smoothing away frown lines. It's been FDA-approved since 2002, but our dermatologists have been studying and using this treatment since 1994. In fact, the doctors of Hailey, Brody, Casey and Wray, M.D., P.C., helped develop the cosmetic use of BOTOX, and are some of the country's leading BOTOX Cosmetic specialists. For additional information, see our BOTOX page.

DYSPORT ™ and Xeomin ™

An alternative to BOTOX® for some patients, DYSPORT™ and Xeomin ™ offer comparable effectiveness and pricing. Please discuss with our doctors to see if this is an acceptable alternative for you. Complications may occur with either treatment.

Dermal Fillers

We practice the newest filling substances for correction of wrinkles facial depressions due to normal aging, HIV lipoatrophy or other causes. Injectable fat, Restylane®, Perlane®, Juvederm™, Radiesse®, Collagen, and other fillers and implantables can be combined for gratifying results. Dermal fillers can also used under the eyes in the tear troughs for considerable improvement. The newest French techniques for fat transfer are used as well. Also, microdroplet injectable silicone is currently being studied, and is in the investigational stages. Please inquire about availability through our office. See procedures for more information.

Acne Scarring Treatment

New Techniques to treat pitted acne scars with chemical peeling are now being used with excellent result and little to no down time. Silicone is also being studied in the treatment of acne scars. Please inquire about availability through our office.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser Hair Removal is available. As this technology has improved over the last several years, so have the results! With recent advances, the procedure is much less painful---almost painless! For more information, see procedures.

Mirvaso gel for Rosacea and Facial Redness Treatments

This new topical gel is the first FDA approved drug for facial redness due to Rosacea or flushing. Its short term action can be valuable for patients with this problem. Please consult us for more information if you have this type of skin. The gel can work to help redness in addition to laser treatments.

Our practice is equipped with the latest technology in medical lasers to improve the redness and broken blood vessels associated with Rosacea and many skin types. There are also several medical and surgical alternatives available. Our dermatologists will recommend treatments that are specific to your skin's needs. See procedures for more information.

Liposuction for skin tightening

Many new devices are available for skin tightening of the neck. Devices that shrink the skin alone do not work as well as removing the fat cells with Liposuction under local anesthesia. We do not offer an array of these devices because the results are unpredictable. Liposuction of the neck under local anesthesia performed as a single procedure as an outpatient, for example, provides only around 3-4 days of down time and far exceeds machine tightening with little difference in price. Ask our doctors about comparisons with your skin.
