Dr. Brody, Dr. Casey, Dr. Wray and Dr. Alexander are pleased to offer Kybella injections to treat moderate to severe fat under the chin, commonly called a double chin. Kybella is the first and only approved non-surgical treatment for contouring and dissolving fat under the chin.
Kybella injections will need to happen about every 4-6 weeks for a total of 3-6 injection appointments, depending on the volume of fat present. Each appointment will take about 30-45 minutes.
Kybella is a non-human form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring substance in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fatty tissue under the chin, it causes deterioration of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat, and the results can be permanent.
The most common side effects of Kybella injections in a majority of people range from swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, and redness to areas of hardness in the treatment area and numbness lasting longer than 30 days. In a small percentage of patients, some serious side effects can occur including trouble swallowing and nerve injury in the jaw that can cause an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness.
